TIL: 39% of American women have a tattoo, and 21% of American men
Two surprises for me:
- 39% of US women have a tattoo?! That's a lot.
- Nearly twice as many US women are tattooed as men: 39% women and 21% men.
The 2/1 women/men ratio holds true for both hidden tattoos (30% for women, 16.7% for men) and visible tattoos as well (8.5% for women and 4.1% for men).
A mere two generations ago, tattoos were largely reserved for criminals, sailors, and circus freaks. Today, 40% of Americans aged 26-40 have at least one tattoo.
